Brushing

Advantages of Brushing

Brushing gives metal a distinctive look because it can remove or hide the surface imperfections.

Applications of Brushing

The part is given a pattern of very fine lines parallel to the brushing direction and still keep the metallic luster. Therefore, it is commonly used for decorative items like electronic equipment, furniture and appliances. Commonly brushed metals include Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Copper, Brass, Titanium and Nickel.

Knurling

Advantages of knurling

Knurling is obtained by displacement of the material when the part is pressed against the surface of rotating work blank. Knurling is the mechanical process that creates a rough textured pattern, which is commonly used for decorative purposes and for serrate surfaces where component parts are locked or keyed together in unit assemblies. Knurling tools are producing straight, diagonal, or diamond knurling having teeth of uniform pitch on cylindrical surfaces.

Applications of knurling

The knurling process is frequently used for tool handles, electronic equipment operating knobs, and etc.

Take below points into Considerations if you are about to knurl the part:

  • ductile metals are better.
  • Specify the desired pattern – typically straight, diagonal, or diamond.
  • Specify the number of teeth per inch (always referred to as TPI).
  • Show the area to be knurled. (related with the cost)
  • If needed specify the dimensional tolerance of the knurled surface.
  • Specify pitch.
